A girl trip

I've wished all summer to have a quick escape up to my family cabin with my mom and summer and it finally came true! The weather was perfect, (although, I wish it rained more!) I missed Chris desperately, especially when I couldn't control the girls fighting and Ash getting into trouble anymore, but it was still fun to be with my mom and sister.

Jocelyn got to ride a horse for the first time! This smile is when she's trying to be a big girl and not show her excitement.

Cecily LOVES these big rocks on the hill. She will play there for hours pretending to be care bears. (This picture was a joke to get BTW!)

Ash was going crazy in the cabin so I took him on a mini walk and he found this rock and was very happy with it.

These girls... whew! Either they were playing perfectly together or they were crying because the other one said they weren't friends anymore. For most of time they got along great though and loved trading clothes. But what girl doesn't?!

August 3, 2002

I had to work at Americopy this night from 3 - 11pm. So we were going to see the latest showing of SIGNS. I was so excited I waited ALL DAY for Chris to call me. I think he called me at some point before I had to go to work and he was going to pick me up from work at 11pm.

He got to Americopy a few minutes early and I saw him looking around in the office supplies waiting for me to get off. I said something to him and it's killing me that I can't remember what it was cause I think it was a pretty good pick up line like "swippie swippie". Anyway, he decided to buy a .19 pencil with his credit card. (I later found that pencil still in it's pretty blue Americopy bag while going through the garbage bags that Chris packed himself after cleaning out his room when he moved out of his house.)

The movie was good and scary, I left my hand available for him to take at some point but gave up after awhile. It was a fantastic date!

Many of you know mine and Chris's love story. Last year I posted our engagement story (sorry I don't have a link for it because of all iweb issues I had with my last blog but HERE'S something you could enjoy too.) But I have never shared the time and place we fell in love and just how obsessed with a fax machine we became. So for the next 6 weeks I will take you on the crazy ride of Chris and I hooking up.

AUGUST 2, 2002
I had broken up with my boyfriend almost 2 months ago at this point and was trying to get back into the groove of hanging out in groups again and maybe dating. My good friend Sandi had arranged a group date to go ice skating. I met up at her house to tag along as the only one without a date. I remember strategizing with myself that I was going to drive separately just in case it got to be too much for me and I could leave when I wanted to.

When I arrived I got in line behind Chris (who I hadn't seen since he left on his mission and he had arrived separately too invited by BFF Ammon and Amy) he asked the cashier if he could use his debit card. I needed to use mine too so I said to him "swippie swippie" (Thanks Elisa!) and it broke the ice and opened conversation with him. We ended up skating next to each other, pushing little kids down (don't judge, anything goes when you're flirting... right?) and then started trying to push each other down. (Which I pushed him down and he cut himself so I got to play the nurturer card and tracked down a band aide)

It was the most fun I had for the longest time, we laughed the entire time together. A side note for later posts; at some point Chris was telling me about his job and how he set up his fax machine so he didn't have to get out of his chair to fax. After skating for a couple hours we decided to meet up again at Sandi's house to play games. Amy and I drove together in my truck and Ammon and Chris in his truck. We ended up racing on the freeway, and doing 90 mph down Greenfield road. Living off Greenfield most of my life I knew as we were coming up on Guadalupe that I was going to hit the red light where I needed to turn left. As Chris was getting in the left lane when the light turned red I made a quick decision to make a right right on Guad to do a U-turn and go straight through the light. It worked beautifully and Amy and I got to Sandi's house first!

A lot of people were there now and we played games and then we called it a night. I remember that Brooke White was there and I thought I had lost all of Chris's interest because I had poofy hair from the wetness of the ice rink, I smelt bad from sweating, I wasn't even wearing cute clothes and I wore fake glasses for fun... I didn't think I could be attractive to anyone. I got into my truck on a high from the fun I had but discouraged at the same time. Then I look over and see Chris's truck next to me and his window is rolled down. He asked me if I wanted to go out tomorrow and I said YES!

Here's the picture we took before returning our ice skates. I remember when I handed the camera to Ammon I had the thought "I can use this picture in our wedding video."

Anne of Green Gables {DEBATE!}

I'm listening to Anne of Green Gables (the book) right now and I'm LOVING it! Anne is such a funny little girl and I'm loving the narrator too... she sounds a bit like Bryce Dallas Howard (The Village, Lady in the Water) OMG! We need to see a remake of Anne of Green Gables... but Bryce is 27... Ok, we need to do all the sequels when Anne is married and has kids. It's genius!

Then later in the book she (narrator) started to sound like Amy Adams (Enchanted) and I was starting to think she would do a good job too... and then I thought of the cute red head on Confessions of a Shopaholic, Isla Fisher (who, after looking at all her pictures doesn't seem so innocent anymore) and now I am being tormented by which red head I should cast in my dream cast of Anne of Green Gables!!!!

So I need your opinion, who do you think would make a better Anne? And while we're at it Gilbert too. All I can think of is Christian Bale (but he's the top of all my dream casts.)

She's been obsessed with Care Bears since that first day we watched them on Netflix and she hasn't been able to quench the thirst. She has been wishing for 3 Care Bears and that's what we got her plus a whole set of vintage Care Bear toys.

We had a girl party with a CB themed party. We had the little girls make their own CB belly symbols and name themselves.

We had a blast!

I've been crafty!

The other day I decided it was time to paint the girls room. After talking about it since we moved in (one year 7 months ago), and decorating around the dark blue painted walls in their room I said "No more!" and went and bought way too much green paint for their room no door bedroom and hall. It turned out so great. In my haste to get it done I really wish I had taken a before picture. I've been collecting bunny stuff since I was 10 so the girls have no choice but to have a victorian rabbit themed room, and I LOVE IT! Here's the finished product.

Still to do on the room I am going to make cute pink curtins and replace the rabbit pictures (leave frames) above the bed with pictures of the girls and put the pictures of the rabbits in smaller frames above the closet doors.

Second project.
I found 4 napkins at Goodwill on their 50% off day and I sewed them together to make 2 pillows. The napkins were $1.50 for the 4 and then the stuffing was $3.97 at Walmart so all said and done it was $5 and took 15 minutes. So awesome!

*Don't look at the nasty state of my couch. I love it's redness but after 3 kids this thing is very sad.
Upcoming project.
I'm making my dining room into a little eat in kitchen thing. I can't wait! Here's the inspiration!

That was close!

Our dear family friend Gary nearly joined his other rabbit friends in freedom. For a full 10 minutes I thought I lost a child! Xena and Val had a fun time harassing the poor rabbit cage and let him free. Just so you know he's safe back in his cage with his water and half rotten broccoli. Whew!
